Our first ever Henry Holland Studio product collaboration project with FLOOR_STORY (our favourite East London rug company) lands this September as part of London Design Festival 2021. Henry gives the lowdown...
"Taking our signature nerikomi ceramic technique as the starting inspiration, we’ve worked with the FLOOR_STORY team to translate these organic waves into a collection of rugs and runners for the home. As we started working with the designs in textiles, they started to take on a psychedelic, almost ’trippy’ feel to them, which reminded me of 1990’s rave paraphernalia. I started playing around with that idea - adding in some classic rave iconographies like the smiley face and some iconic song lyrics it started to come together and feel like the perfect marriage."

“I’m a huge believer in colour therapy and that colour can make you feel different ways. For my ceramics I’ve worked with a more mature colour palette - simple greens, blues, browns and white - so I wanted to reflect this into the rug collaboration and see how we could play around with these so that you immediately know it’s a Henry Holland Studio design piece. At the same time, textiles offered a bit more freedom, so alongside this calmer palette we wanted to inject some more playful, hedonistic brights, allowing people to create different moods.”

“Different pieces make me feel different ways. We’ve got the more calming, neutral pieces and runners which are then counter-balanced by the more uplifting, bolder statement pieces. We wanted to create a concise collection that would play into different rooms - runners for hallways, slightly more off-the-wall statement rugs to be the centrepiece of a living room. I’m particularly proud and excited by the ‘melting’ designs we’ve created where the rugs appear to bleed into a room and I’m so intrigued to see how people will incorporate these designs into their homes.”
